Johnston
By interpreting the Abbotsford character as a jigsaw of building types, uses and components, our design response was based on a three dimensional extrusion of the existing urban grain.
An exploration of this concept, notionally referred to as a vertical jigsaw, informed an architectural language that was contemporary and modern, yet contextually relevant. The use of repetition, modulation, enduring materials and elegant form were the principles informing the design intent.
The project includes a retail element on the ground floor, three levels of car parking - including two basement levels - and comprises three main building forms, broken into smaller components and rising to various heights. A historical façade on Johnston Street will be retained to link into the existing streetscape character.
