Edmondstone Tower
ROTHELOWMAN's proposal recognises the strong cognitive link that the Brisbane River has in defining a sense of place within Brisbane as a whole. The notion of a ‘river-like' continuity connecting different elements is explored in the building's architecture.
The ribbon gathers and mediates between a collection of elegant forms, deliberately blurring the boundary between podium and tower. The large fold at the lower levels on Edmondstone Street creates a dramatic entrance statement, allowing the building to engage positively with the streetscape.
This civic scale gesture is complemented by a living green wall to the car park, further reinforcing the contribution the tower makes to the public realm. At the upper levels, the building is carefully articulated to address views from all directions, acknowledging the prominent position the tower will hold in the future skyline of the city. Folding over the top of the tower before cascading down the sides, the ribbon acts as a metaphorical link to the heart of Brisbane.
