Habitat
This residential tower in Southbank adopts an innovative approach to a challenging small site, in close proximity to an elevated freeway.
A visual representation of sound waves from noise sources on the adjacent freeway form the basis for a highly patterned and detailed building façade. This robust facade treatment, incorporating a scattering of punched openings within a solid, textured wall provides a functional and aesthetic response to the freeway edge condition.
A ‘sky-garden' concept will provide accessible outdoor space with a high level of resident amenity. Building occupants will enjoy the shared use of large, landscaped, three-storey outdoor volumes, protected from high winds and traffic noise and with panoramic views towards Melbourne East.
While the street level proposes a generous residential entry space, retail shop, bike workshop and landscaping to both the Clarke and Hancock Street elevations, the roof level will provide landscaping, a cinema and dining spaces.
